Attack on SATV Journalists by Alleged Drug Traffickers in Dhaka



Dhaka, January 24, 2023 – Two journalists from the private television channel SATV were attacked by suspected drug traffickers in the Karwan Bazar area of the capital on Tuesday afternoon. The assailants also vandalized the television crew’s vehicle and camera equipment. The identities of the attackers remain unconfirmed.

The injured journalists have been identified as
Taiyfur Rahman Tuhin, a staff reporter for SATV and a member of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB), and T.H. Muslim, a cameraperson. According to Tuhin, the incident occurred shortly after they had covered a program organized by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Karwan Bazar. The attackers, believed to be drug traffickers, threw bricks and stones at the journalists, damaging the vehicle’s glass and injuring both Tuhin and Muslim. Tuhin was unable to provide further details about the attackers’ identities.

The Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) strongly condemned the attack on its member, Taiyfur Rahman Tuhin. CRAB President Mirza Mehedi Tamal, General Secretary Mamunur Rashid, and other executive committee members demanded the swift arrest of those responsible for the assault.
Authorities have yet to comment on the incident, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
